David Tutera and Ex-Husband Ryan Jurica Are Raising Their Twins Separately
Hollywood event planner to the stars David Tutera is known for throwing lavish parties for celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, but he recently opened up to People about forging some completely new territory.
his biological baby girl Cielo, and her brother and fraternal twin Cedric is living with his own biological dad, ex-husband Jurica.
Regarding the couple’s decision, Tutera says, “The divorce happened so quickly after the [embryo] transfer was successful that there wasn’t time to mourn the loss of raising a second child — I was mourning the loss of my relationship.”
Tutera says that although the twins are currently being raised across the country from one another — he lives in L.A. and Jurica lives in Connecticut — it’s important to him that the two children have a bond. “We can’t pretend like this doesn’t exist for them” he says. “That’s completely selfish. It is our responsibility to do the right thing for our children.”
Although the divorce was apparently very nasty, Tutera said, “The mudslinging has ended. And I hope that one day, Ryan and I will be friends.”
As for embracing his new role, the high profile party planner says, “I think we all envision ourselves married and in a relationship...but there is something very enlightening about being a single father.”
Once People posted their story, comments about separating the twins have reached a fever pitch, with many expressing what they feel is an incredibly selfish act to raise the twins apart. I have twins myself, and I simply can’t imagine them separated. That said, I do understand that with surrogacy and the fact that each took their own biological offspring, they aren’t necessarily “twins” in the traditional sense of the word.
Tutera certainly sounds like he’s ready to stand by his decision, however. “I’ll make mistakes, but my job for the rest of her life is to protect her and support her. We’re a team,” he said. It will be interesting to see what kind of relationship Cielo and Cedric are able to form as they grow up.
