Miley Who? Paula Patton Shares the Love by Twerking on Al Roker (VIDEO)
Many critics of twerking, jiggling, booty-shaking, and general bouncy fun have specifically pinpointed Miley Cyrus as the cause of moral decay in America since her grind-happy VMAs performance was allowed to air on TV.
Despite the countless objections to Miley’s strange, rubber-suited grinding on co-performer Robin Thicke, the one person who seems to have no issues with the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s performance is his wife, Paula Patton, who has made it her mission to prove how fine she is with Miley rubbing against her man.
To prove just how cool she is with the whole situation, Paula took her “anything goes” show to the set of the TODAY show to prove that twerking, like a handshake or a hug, is just another way to show a friend you care.
Paula, who had already explained to Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen of her husband’s VMAs performance, “They rehearsed for three days beforehand. I don't know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your…All my friends do it like that,” shared the twerk love with TODAY host Al Roker, showing him some of her own twerk work.
While Paula’s light grinding on Al was far little less gropey than Miley’s sports memorabilia-filled molest-fest, she explained her motivations to the veteran newsman, lest she be misinterpreted. “I'm not that uptight. I'm not a traditionalist," she explained. "Twerking can help the love.”
Whatever Paula's doing — it's not twerking, but we're nitpicking — it seems to be working. It may be because both of them stayed out of the spotlight until they were a little older — Robin started out behind-the-scenes as a songwriter, and Paula didn't get her first role until 2005 — but we're not aware of any dirty laundry in their marriage.
Certainly, other Hollywood relationships have benefitted from a little trust and understanding while their other half gets dirty for a performance. Showbiz parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have a notoriously relaxed marriage that, while not exactly "open," as they’ve made clear, has a level of understanding. In a video interview with HuffPost Live, Jada said, “Will and I are very relaxed with each other. I’ve always told Will, ‘You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay.” She later clarified, out of the need to "discuss the relationship between trust and love and how they co-exist," said that they do not "have an open relationship [...] we have a grown one."
Paula, being an actress herself, appearing in films like Deja Vu and Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, may have a similar understanding with Robin. And after all, a performance is a performance, while a marriage is a partnership.
