Glee’s Grant Gustin on Becoming CW’s The Flash — In Tight Spandex!

Grant Gustin (Sebastian), meet tight red spandex. Red spandex, meet Grant Gustin. The Glee guest star — who will appear in the Season 5 premiere on September 26 — just booked an extended guest role as superhero The Flash on the CW’s Arrow, so he knows that there is some very, uh...revealing fabric in his future.

The 23-year-old recently spoke with E! Online about landing the superhero gig. Since it’s all so new, Grant hasn’t seen any scripts or an official costume quite yet, but he’s heard rumblings.

"I would image when The Flash comes he'll be in a pretty traditional Flash costume," Grant says, referring to the bright red suit, yellow boots, and lightning bolt helmet. "That's kind of what I've caught wind of."

Though the self-professed comic book fan says he’s a total “fanboy” and “really excited” to have gotten the role, he says the casting choice did at first strike him as a little odd. “I know the character and know I'm a little young,” he says.

Grant also shares that his character, Barry Allen, won’t start off as his crimson-adorned alter-ego. During his first couple of Arrow episodes, Barry will simply be an assistant forensic scientist. The lightning bolt helmet comes later.

The CW is already working on an Arrow spinoff focused solely around The Flash, with Grant’s third and final Arrow episode serving as a backdoor pilot. Fingers crossed it gets picked up! Sebastian is great on Glee and all, but we’d love to see Grant get the starring role in his own TV show.
