The Voice 2013: Best Performance From the Season 5 Blind Auditions Premiere, Sept. 23, 2013 (VIDEO)

After months of waiting and adding photos to our Adamtina shrine, The Voice is finally back and last night’s premiere showed that the talent level was the best it’s ever been.

Any time the show’s oldest artist can prove she’s just as much a force to be reckoned with as a giggly 16-year-old singing one of today’s top songs, you know it’s going to be a great season.

After four cycles of seeing lackluster musical veterans hitting the stage in velour dresses and singing Janis Joplin, Donna Allen was a breath of fresh air singing Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful.”

The simplicity of the song truly allowed this talented artist to let every aspect of her voice shine, and we’re so happy that she joined Team Adam Levine.

But the best performance of the night has to go to former college rugby player Matthew Schuler. The passion and raw emotion he put into his rendition of Young The Giant’s “Cough Syrup” earned him an immediate four-chair turn.

Not only is his family’s story of hard work and perseverance the definition of the American dream, but his infectious grin melted our hearts after his killer vocals destroyed the competition.

Do you agree with our pick for best of the night? Watch the clip and tell us below!
