Glee

When Will Glee End?

It’s a sad fact of life that all good things must come to an end, and that holds true for our favorite TV shows. Glee once seemed unstoppable, a force to be reckoned with. During Seasons 1 and 2 ratings just kept climbing to new heights, and fans couldn’t stop talking about the show. Then, things started to wane a bit in Seasons 3 and 4. Glee was still strong, but it wasn’t the powerhouse of a cultural phenomenon it once was. Nevertheless, FOX stood behind the show and made the decision in April 2013 to renew it for two more seasons.

Then, in summer 2013 between Seasons 4 and 5, lead actor Cory Monteith (Finn) passed away suddenly. On top of that, fan favorite Heather Morris (Brittany) became pregnant with her first child, and will likely not appear in Season 5 at all.

With two popular characters suddenly off the show, and ratings still not what they once were, plenty of people wondered if FOX might decide to just up and cancel Glee then and there. Thankfully, this did not happen.

However, FOX president Kevin Reilly told reporters in August 2013 that he does not expect to see Glee continue after Season 6. So far, no official decision has been made as to when the show will be canceled. If ratings surge in Seasons 5 and 6, it’s entirely possible that the show could continue. After all, creator Ryan Murphy has said that he could see it continuing up through Season 8.

In light of Cory’s passing, though, this does not seem likely. Our best guess is that Glee will end after Season 6, though there is a slight chance FOX could decide to pull the plug at the end of Season 5 if viewer interest just isn’t there.
