Update 3:00 p.m.: Amanda Bynes's parents spoke to TMZ through their lawyer, Tamar Arminak, to address the reasons for Amanda's departure from the UCLA facility. "Amanda was stuck with people in much worse condition than her. She was scared, afraid, and did not leave her immediate room area," the lawyer explains. At the new rehab facility, "She is getting specialized psych care, one on one treatment, not drug rehab."
The troubled starlet also has more freedom to get out of her room and be outside, walking the grounds, seeing the ocean, and even riding horses! Adds the family's lawyer, the UCLA doctors recommended the move on behalf of their client, saying that she is "making great strides towards recovery."
Original Story 9/30/13 7:11 a.m.: It looks like things are getting better by the day for Amanda Bynes, but the troubled star isn’t out of the woods just yet.
TMZ reports that the former Nickelodeon star has left UCLA Medical Center, where she was being treated for a schizophrenia-type mental illness, in favor of a tony Malibu rehab center, where she’ll be staying for an undisclosed amount of time.
While doctors at UCLA were trying to get to get Amanda properly diagnosed and medicated, it’s unclear if she’ll be receiving only mental health treatment or help with her alleged substance abuse issues as well at her new home, The Canyon Treatment Center For Addiction and Dual Diagnosis Rehab, where she’s reportedly been staying for the past three weeks.
Amanda’s move out of UCLA’s top-notch psychiatric study program seems a particularly curious one, since her doctors reportedly believed her to be enough of a danger to herself and others to recently extend her involuntary psychiatric hold.
Amanda’s mother has, however, recently given up her bid to gain permanent conservatorship over her.
As for Amanda’s condition, it sounds as though little has changed, with a few exceptions, style-wise.
A source claims that Amanda’s still keeping to herself and she’s still as paranoid as ever — but she’s finally lost the wig for good. Progress!
