Once Upon a Time Season 3 Premiere Burning Questions — Is Greg Mendell Dead?
We love all ofOnce Upon a Time’s many, many mysteries, but sometimes it seems like each episode introduces more questions than answers. To that end, we’ve tackled the 10 biggest questions from this week’s episode in order to make sense of everything that happened.
This show has a knack for keeping characters around who you were pretty sure were dead (including someone we’ll discuss later). So while it seems like Greg is a goner after losing his shadow, we wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back, as we’ve always felt sorry for him for losing his dad. But if Greg is gone, then all the time devoted to him last season feels a bit like a waste, no?
2. What happened to Tamara’s backstory?
And speaking of wasting time on the show, we were shocked at how quickly Tamara was killed off this season. We were convinced we’d be getting some kind of fascinating backstory about what got her on this anti-magic kick of hers, particularly something related to that nebulous grandmother whom she’d referred to previously. So much for that!
3. What does Peter Pan want with Henry and his heart?
We now know that Peter Pan wants Henry because of his true heart, but what exactly does he have in store for Henry? We have yet to see Pan fly on his own, so maybe he needed Henry to do so? We just hope Gold can find Henry ASAP before Peter and the Lost Boys spend any more time with him than they have to.
4. What is Gold’s history with Peter Pan?
Gold and Pan have some sort of rocky past, but what happened between them? We kind of assume it has something to do with the fact that they’re both in the baby-trading industry — which is a great industry to be in. Or maybe Gold tried to find Bae when he was in Neverland as a kid. And not to get all heavy on you, but will Peter really kill Gold, as Gold predicts this week?
5. How soon will Neal get back to his fam?
We’re relieved that Neal seems to be hanging in there after last season’s gunshot wound. And while his burgeoning friendship — or is it more than just friendship? — with Mulan is cute, we really just want to see him back with Gold, Henry, and, of course, Emma. But how will he get to Neverland? That appears to be no easy task.
So speaking of people returning from the dead, is the show ever going to bother explaining why Prince Phillip is back and better than ever after his bout with that wraith? Like, remember how Cora offered to help Aurora bring back Phillip through nefarious means last season, but Aurora refused? So then why is Phillip now as healthy as an ox? Not that we’re complaining, mind you: This is one royal who’s easy on the eyes.
7. How integral of a role will Robin Hood play?
We weren’t too impressed with Robin Hood’s yawn-inducing episode last season. But the recast character seems to be more of a badass this season, so we wouldn’t mind if Robin joins Neal and the gang on their Enchanted Forest adventures. By the way, we weren’t the only ones who were surprised that Robin knew what an “ID” was when Neal mentioned it, right?
8. When will Emma be able to use magic on a regular basis?
Gold offered quite the condescending lecture to Emma about needing people to hold her hand — ouch, dude! — but we’re thinking that Emma taking more risks might eventually lead to her regularly being able to use magic. This would be good because, at the moment, her only secret powers appear to be lie-detection — and judging by this week’s episode, an ability to interpret what’s causing inclement weather. Some powers those are.
9. Will Emma choose Neal or Hook?
After Season 2’s emotional finale, we were convinced that Emma and Neal were meant to be together. Now, we’re not quite as sure, especially after Hook’s cute line about how he fancies Emma. So will we be seeing things heat up between Emma and Hook before Neal gets back into the picture? Long story short: Don’t dilly-dally, Neal!
10. Is it just us, or did the mermaid look an awful lot like Regina?
OK, we just have to mention that the show could not have found more of a Lana Parrilla lookalike to play the role of the mermaid, so much so that for a second there, we wondered if Regina had turned herself into that mermaid as some kind of weird prank. As it turns out, Regina was definitely not the mermaid, which she quickly turned into firewood.
