Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: Paul Wesley Says Stefan Is a “Changed Guy” (VIDEO)

Throughout the past four seasons of The Vampire Diaries, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) has been a sappy good guy (except for being the Ripper) — but things are about to change come Season 5 when the actor debuts his bad boy acting skills as the evil Silas.

“Playing Silas, that’s completely different. I’ve never played another character. I’ve played the Ripper, but I’ve never played someone completely different,” Paul told CW69.

Paul says that it’s been a little weird getting into the character of Silas just because Silas is pretending to be Stefan at first.

“Stefan is much less assured and much less decisive. This guy has been around for 2,000 years, so his motivations come from deep, deep wisdom and knowledge as opposed to Stefan who is more self-aware,” Paul said about Silas and Stefan’s differences.

“Silas is a little more understated in certain ways. Silas doesn’t really apologize for who he is. He won’t even bite people’s necks because he doesn’t want to degrade himself,” Paul continued. “He doesn’t even consider himself a vampire.”

So you might be asking yourself how he’s going to sustain himself if he isn’t biting people — but Paul has your answer. “He sort of just cuts people and drinks their blood because it’s cleaner.”

But with all this focus on Silas, don’t expect to see any less of Stefan this season. “I like Stefan’s arc. He doesn’t just get out of this safe and then suddenly go back to being the good old Stefan,” Paul teased. “There’s a big transition because he was down there really suffering and I think he’s had a lot of epiphanies and dreams and I think he comes back a changed guy.”
