Pretty Little Liars: Ranking the Halloween Episodes From Worst to Best

With the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Halloween special right around the corner, we’re wondering how it will stand up against the specials of Halloweens past, which rank amongst our most favorite episodes of PLL. So! Here’s our tentative hierarchy of Halloween episodes, including the yet-to-be-aired Season 4 based on our spoiler-fueled expectations!

3. Season 2, Episode 13: “The First Secret”

Don’t get us wrong, we love the very first PLL Halloween special with all of our hearts, but this is a stiff competition and you have to really some pretty epic backstory if an entire flashback episode is going to win the contest. We enjoyed getting an entire episode with Ali, and spending time with the Liars pre-Ali’s “death,” but this episode didn’t move the story forward in the way present-day eps (especially Halloween specials) tend to. Kudos to the Lady Gaga costumes, though.

2. Season 4, Episode 13: “Grave New World”

Fine, we admit it’s not really fair to judge this episode before it’s aired. And we do think it will be great and have outlined 10 reasons why we’re really, really looking forward to it but we doubt it will be able to match the epicness of last season’s episode. (Plus, it’s not even set on Halloween.) We are looking forward to exploring Ravenswood, following Ezra’s every movement, and possibly learning more about Ali’s supposed non-death. The only thing that might thrust this episode to the top of this list is an actual Ali encounter wherein she answers actual questions. Then, maybe we’ll talk revision.

1. Season 3, Episode 13: “This Is a Dark Ride”

An epic Halloween train ride of danger and death?! What more could you want from an episode of PLL nonetheless a Halloween-themed one? In this episode, Garrett is murdered; Aria is really, really almost pushed off the train; and Ali’s body is served on ice. Finish it off with some pretty epic Halloween costumes (especially Hanna’s Marilyn Monroe number), and you’ve pretty much got a perfect episode. We’re not sure if any PLL episode Halloween or otherwise will ever be able to surpass the high bar set by this exciting episode.

Do you agree with our ranking? Do you think this season’s Halloween ep will be better than last year’s? Sound off in the comments below!
