Watch: Amber Riley’s Mercedes Sings “I’ll Stand By You” in Glee’s Cory Monteith Tribute

Amber Riley (Mercedes) says she broke down crying while filming this song. And we certainly see why. During, Glee’s October 10 Season 5, Episode 3: "The Quarterback," the show paid tribute to Cory Monteith (Finn), who passed away suddenly this summer. As previously suspected, Amber will be singing The Pretenders’s “I’ll Stand By You,” the same song that Finn sang way back in Season 1 to tell the unborn Baby Beth that he would stick by her.

Now, after the glee club learns that Finn has passed away, Mercedes will sing this same song in honor of Finn. Watch the full thing again, but be warned: This song is very emotional. Amber told TV host Ellen Degeneres that she broke down and cried while filming it. “Singing the song to him, the specific song that I’m singing, it’s very touching. And people are going to recognize this song,” she said at the time.

Also included in this episode is a performance by Santana (Naya Rivera) of “If I Die Young,” and one from Puck (Mark Salling) of “No Surrender.” Then, at the end of the episode, Rachel (Lea Michele) sang "Make You Feel My Love,” and we totally lost it. So many sad feelings. If you need us, we’ll just be over here sitting in the corner, clutching a giant tub of ice cream.
