With a new season of Love & Hip Hop in the making, it’s only right that we take time to get a refresher on some of its key players. Erica Mena has been in the spotlight as of late due to her infamous relationship with on-again-off-again beau Rich Dollaz and her brewing “beef” with newcomer, K. Michelle.
Love her or hate here, but here’s five things you should know about Erica.
1. Erica got her start in the modeling business as a Jennifer Lopezlook-alike
In a radio interview, Erica revealed that she got her start in the modeling business after winning a Jennifer Lopez look-alike contest on MTV. After that, management firm Roc-a-fella scouted out the budding model and she was featured in a music video for the label’s group, Young Gunz, called “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop.” Erica went on to be featured in several other music videos including Chris Brown’s “Yo (Excuse Me Miss),” Fabolous’s “Breathe,” and 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop.”
2. Erica’s been catching men's attention since the age of 16
Yes, we know… sound completely illegal, but when it comes to the ladies and gents of the Love & Hip Hop franchise you guys, expect anything. According to Erica, the feisty Latina has been making men swoon over her good looks ever since she posed in a semi-nude spread for XXL magazine at the tender age of 16.
3. Erica used to work for the Kardashians
Before she was known as the girl who picked a fight with Kimbella, Erica actually had a pretty good relationship with the Kardashian gals, Kourtney and Khloe. As a matter of fact, she worked for the Kardashian sisters at their Dash boutique in Miami. However, Erica wasn’t pulling her weight and rubbed most people in the store the wrong way.
Even though Erica was quite possibly the only spanish speaking employee at Dash, the sisters decided to let her go on an episode of Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami due to her poor work ethic.
4. Erica released a memoir filled with tons of juicy details
Following in the footsteps of other video vixens before her, Erica released her own tell all memoir, Underneath It All, in April 2013. According to Erica, the book covers everything including her relationship with Rich Dollaz, and the infamous “affair” with New York radio star DJ Envy. While we haven’t been able to read the masterpiece as of yet, we’re wondering if the details of her domestic abuse with baby daddy, Raul Conde, are mentioned…
5. Erica is trying move on from Rich Dollaz… sorta
In a recent episode of Black Ink Crew, Erica Mena stopped by the renowned tattoo parlor in order to cover up a tattoo she got in honor of her on-again-off-again boyfriend Rich Dollaz. While there, the shop’s owner (who is close friends with Rich) called the manager up to notify him that Erica was getting her tattoo removed. After the former couple's interesting interaction, Erica went ahead with the cover up. Although the singer went on to say that she felt really good about moving on from that point in her life, Rich hinted online that fans would see something going on between them on the new season of Love & Hip Hop:
“@iamErica_Mena c how u play this tub scene off !!!!!” Rich tweeted to Erica on October 7.
Well, thank goodness the show returns in just a few weeks!
