Season 6, Episodes 23/24: "Sanctuary"/"Death and All His Friends"
A shooter in the hospital? It should have been preposterous, but this is Shonda Rhimes we're talking about here — one of her greatest talents is turning the preposterous into the riveting (see: all of Scandal). This two part finale was a nail-biter from moment one, thanks to sharp writing, solid directing, and spot-on acting. Our hearts were racing, our eyes were rarely dry, and we'll never forget it.
Season 7, Episode 1: "With You I'm Born Again"
A bang as big as the Season 6 finale could have led to a lackluster follow up, but this tense, emotional episode started the season off right, setting the stage for a year that was lighter on the huge deaths, but brilliantly emotionally complex.
Season 7, Episode 18: "Song Beneath the Song"
We know the musical episode is a love it or hate it kind of a deal, but we totally love it. Sure, we're pretty certain a car accident doesn't actually make you hallucinate that the world is a musical, but this cast is overflowing with singers so talented, the ludicrousness of the premise didn't even matter. We still tear up when we listen to the soundtrack, and that's all we can ask.
Grey's Anatomy Season 8, Episode 24: "Flight"
Did we like what happened in the Season finale? No, not at all. Were we glued to the TV with our jaws on the floor? Yes, definitely. Plus, Mark's goodbye to Lexie is as moving as anything this show has ever produced.
Season 9, Episode 2: "Remember the Time"
This episode gave us the direct follow-up to the plane crash that we'd all been waiting for, and it moved us to tears just like we wanted it to. It could have made it to this list for the Cristina bath scene alone.
Season 10, Episodes 1/2: "Seal Our Fate"/"I Want You With Me"
OK, so the Season 10 premiere might be too recent for us to really have a good perspective on it, but we have to say, we loved it. Any episode that made us care that much about the interns is good in our books!
