Cory Monteith Tribute: Glee’s Brad Falchuk Prouder Than Anything He’s “Ever Done”

Glee’s cast and crew definitely struggled with making tonight’s Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback,” which pays tribute to Cory Monteith (Finn). But the episode’s director says that not only was the pain worth it but that this is the proudest he’s ever been of something he’s worked on.

Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk wrote tonight’s episode with fellow series creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, and Brad also directed the episode. But directing it was no easy feat, as he tells The Hollywood Reporter that it "was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done."

"My job as a director was to keep everyone in that grief because I didn't want anything fake in the episode, and I didn't want anyone to pretend they were sad," Brad explains.

"I wanted them to be sad about what they were sad about, and to stay in that for the two weeks it took to shoot that — and to keep pulling everyone back and to take care of them when they went there— was a lot,” he continues. “I had a hard time.”

That said, Brad ultimately feels that the pain was worth it in order to give Finn a proper sendoff. “I'm more proud of it than anything I've ever done,” Brad says. “It's for Cory."

We appreciate Brad’s approach to the episode, and we look forward to what he and the entire cast and crew have put together.
