Glee Ratings Skyrocket for Cory Monteith Tribute — a Full 75 Percent!
Finally Glee‘s ratings are looking up! After opening with weak ratings for its Season 5 premiere and seeing viewership drop even lower for Episode 2, the show got a much-needed boost during October 10’s Season 5, Episode 3: "The Quarterback.”
The moral of the story? Glee’s audience doesn’t seem to care all that much about the Beatles, but they sure as heck loved Cory and Finn. The tribute episode stayed vague about the cause of Finn’s death, and instead chose to focus on celebrating and remembering his life. What could have been a Glee PSA-style episode about the dangers of drug addiction was instead simply a tribute to honor a man who meant so much to so many people.
No sensationalizing the tragedy. No trying to make a lesson out of Finn’s death. Let’s be real: The tragic circumstance surrounding Cory’s passing serve as a painful lesson all on their own. Glee didn’t need to reiterate it to us.
And they didn’t try to. Instead, they simply mourned the loss of a friend and a brother. And the world, it seems, tuned in to watch.
