Fresh off her record-breaking swim from Cuba to Florida, Diana Nyad embarked on a continuous 48-hour swim to raise funds for Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
Celebrities, athletes, and TV personalities came out to show their support for the long-distance swimmer, including True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, Twilight star Nikki Reed, Jersey Shore’s Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola, and Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte.
“Swim for Relief,” a two-day event held at Herald Square in New York City, was presented by P&G brands Duracell, Secret, and Tide. The fundraiser brought in over $100,000 for AmeriCares, a nonprofit relief organization that delivers medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world.
