Apparently we weren’t the only ones eagerly anticipating the Season 4 premiere of The Walking Dead. Per TVLine, the hit AMC drama’s Season 4 kickoff was seen by 16.1 million viewers! While TWD has been a ratings machine since its debut in 2010, these figures blow any previously established records out of the water.
As a point of reference, last May’s Season 3 finale had 12.4 million viewers, and that was the show’s previous viewership record. Even better? Of the over 16 million people who tuned in last night, 10.4 million of them hailed from the coveted 18-49 demo.
TWD’s ratings win even helped boost viewers to the post show, Talking Dead, which had 5.1 million viewers.
As can be expected, AMC is beyond thrilled with these killer ratings.
“Sincere thanks to the fans, who have welcomed The Walking Dead back for its fourth season with the highest-rated episode in the show’s history,” AMC’s President Charlie Collier said in a statement. “We could not be more proud of this show and everyone on both sides of the camera who work so hard to give life to this story of character, leadership and survival.”
While we didn’t find the premiere the most entertaining episode ever, we were certainly shocked by the deaths that already occurred and the new threat.
