Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: Why Norman Reedus Should Play Christian Grey
Call us crazy — and we know some of you will! — but we think Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) could totally nail the part of Christian Grey. Yeah, yeah, we know Christian is supposed to be about 28 years old, but we don’t care about that one little fact — and Norman in no way looks like all of his 44 years.
The role of Christian Grey would rocket him into superstardom, and it’d be a really different and challenging part for him. Whether it would lose him further jobs in Hollywood is another question altogether! Yes, we said it.
Without further ado, here are 3 reasons we think Norman Reedus should play Christian Grey.
Norman’s gotta be a bad boy, right? He’s got tattoos, he rough and stubbly, and he rides a motorcycle, so he must be a bit of a bad boy — or at least that’s how he seems in our minds.
Of the possible (inevitable?) Daryl-Carol hookup, Norman told Access Hollywood, “I think [Daryl] would do it like an animal. You know what I mean? And if we’re gonna do it, I hope someone is biting the back of someone’s neck.” An animal? Yes, we think this whole Christian Grey thing might work out!
Also there’s this gem of a factoid: Norman has a foot fetish, just like Christian Grey. When asked byOut if he had any fetishes, the actor responded, “Yeah, I do actually. I’m really into feet and necks.”
Norman’s got that whole “dark side” thing going on. Norman’s turn as damaged zombie-killer Daryl Dixon should prove he can do dark, intense, and tortured. His Walking Dead character is a child abuse survivor just like Fifty Shades protagonist Christian Grey, so there’s another commonality.
And to further prove our point: Have you seen Norman as an obsessed, distraught theater owner in the brilliant short horror film, “Cigarette Burns”? Some light BDSM ain’t got nothin’ on the actor.
Norman is ridiculously good looking. Christian Grey is described in the books by his lover Anastasia (who will be played by 24-year-old Dakota Johnson) as “not merely good looking — he is the epitome of male beauty, breathtaking." There are millions of women (and men) who would vouch that Norman fits that bill to a T.
Earlier this year, former TWD costar Laurie Holden (R.I.P., Andrea) surprisingly failed to mention Norman as a potential to play Christian Grey. When asked byThe Huffington Post who she’d ideally cast at the Christian and Anastasia, she responded, “Ryan Gosling and myself.” Clearly, the woman is crazy! (Okay, we'd make that casting choice, too.)
Fifty Shades of Grey is slated to be released in August 2014. After Charlie Hunnam’s shocking exit, they need to recast ASAP, so let’s start a movement, people! #NormanReedusforChristianGrey
