Dancing With the Stars was consistent with its format for 16 seasons, but for Season 17, it made some big changes. Gone are the two-night endeavors for the hit dance competition, nixing the Results Show and putting eliminations at the end of the two-hour Monday night show.
Now that we’re headed into Week 7, it seems like everyone should be used to the new format, but do the returning pro dancers like it? When Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Peta Murgatroyd at Val Chmerkovskiy’s Valentin clothing line launch at the new Philippe in Beverly Hills on October 17, she had mixed opinions.
“I mean it’s super weird still because we used to love the Tuesday shows with the artists coming on to perform and stuff like that, but now the artists are performing on Mondays sometimes,” Peta revealed as fellow pros celebrated with ZING Red Velvet Vodka cocktails. “The show is just jam-packed now so it’s good in that way that viewers don’t have to watch three hours of dancing every week. I think they kind of like that — and two hours is quite enough.”
While occasionally the show feels rushed, two hours does seem like the perfect amount of time for DWTS. For Peta, her focus isn’t on the time spent taping the show, but rather her hours rehearsing with partner Brant Daugherty. Potential showmance aside, she’s happy to be dancing with him.
“He’s great; he’s a great partner. He’s so nice, so humble, so dedicated to this art form and we really want to win the trophy in the end,” she said of Brant, dishing to us about his best dance qualities. “I think his frame and his posture are incredibly good. He didn’t know that he had good posture,” she raved. “He has like a dancer’s frame already but he’s just been incredible in that way. I was very surprised.”
Though she admits that the “Rumba walks are hard for him,” that doesn’t matter for tonight’s episode! For their International Style Tango, Peta promises it will be “really jam-packed” and an overall amazing and fierce performance. We can’t wait!
What do you think of Peta and Brant? Does the new format stress you out? Sound off below and catch DWTS tonight, Monday, October 21 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
