Pretty Little Liars: Breaking Down What Ali Told Emily Outside the Barn
During the Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Halloween special, Ali told Hanna to "remember what [she] told [her] in the hospital," suggesting that her "hallucinated" appearance to Hanna back in Season 1 was actually very real. Of course, this has us wondering about all the other times she appeared to the Liars. Are they real, too? We have to think the answer might be yes.
With that in mind, we're going to go back and examine all of Ali's appearances in depth, starting to her visit with Emily (Shay Mitchell) in Season 2, Episode 12.

What can we learn? Let's dig in to what Ali had to say for self.
She saved Emily. First things first: It looks like Emily probably owes her life to Ali, adding to the theory that Ali has been watching out for the girls all along.
"I think I missed you the most." In this scene, Ali talks a lot about how much she liked Emily. "I never told you this, but you were always my favorite. Nobody loved me as much as you did." This doesn't give us many clues to what happened to Ali — though her constant craving for the love of others might be what led her down a dangerous path, if Board Shorts has something to do with her disappearance — but it does make us wonder what her relationship with Emily will be like now that she's back. Will there be romantic feelings left, on either side?
"That bitch thinks this is what you really want,to be completely free of 'A'." As in the hospital scene, this seems to imply "A" is a woman. Is Ali just referring to Mona? Or is something else going on? The way this is phrased, it kind of seems like "that bitch" and "A" are two different people. Could Ali be talking about a higher level danger?
"I don't think that's a good idea." In this scene Ali says that she "of course" knows who "A" is — again, are we only talking Mona? — but that she shouldn't tell because "two can only keep a secret if one of them is dead." Again, refusal to give the Liars useful information! Is it Mona she's scared of here, or someone else entirely?
"You can come with me." At the time, Ali suggesting Emily come with her was taken as a metaphor for dying. But was she literally offering to take Emily into hiding with her? Would she have done it if Emily said that's what she wanted?
