The Originals

The Originals Season 1, Episode 5 Spoilers Roundup — Davina’s Origins, Sophie’s Secret, and More!

The Originals is really starting to pick up steam! Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is out of his coffin, Davina (Danielle Campbell) seems ready to demonstrate the extent of her witchy powers, and Klaus's (Joseph Morgan) diabolical plan moves precariously forward. What can we expect from this week’s installment of the Vampire Diaries spin-off, Season 1, Episode 5: “Sinners and Saints”?

Papa Klaus is mad

According to the synopsis (and judging by his face in some of these promo photos), Klaus is “angered by recent events involving the safety of his unborn baby,” aka the witch attack on Hayley in last week’s episode. Klaus “demands answers from Sophie, believing she was involved,” but we’re guessing she somehow convinces him she knows nothing given that she is still alive in this sneak peek. If Sophie didn’t send those witches to capture Hayley, then who did?

Sophie reveals a deep, dark secret

Perhaps Sophie’s persuasion has something to do with the “troubling secret from her past” she reveals to Klaus and Rebekah. We think this secret might have something to do with teenage witch Davia, given the spoilers that “everything [we] believe is wrong” concerning Sophie and Davina. Could Davina and Sophie be related? Did the witches try to do something terrible to Davina? Why is she so angry with them?

Davina and Marcel’s backstory

In this episode, we’ll also be getting more backstory about how Davina and Marcel came to be friends. Danielle Campbell told Alloy Entertainment: “In the fifth episode, you get backstories as to why Davina is there and what happened that made Marcel and her meet, and it’s kind of what makes her personality the way it is. It also introduces her to this power that she has.” Danielle further teases that there’s “a reason why she trusts only certain people, and there’s a reason why she hates others.” What happened to this girl?!

Elijah and Davina chat

It seems Davina will be spilling these secrets to none other than Elijah, aka The Originals’ best listener. In this sneak peek, we see Elijah up and about in Davina’s attic after his dagger-induced slumber. He attempts to convince Davina to ally herself with him: “Davina, I believe you and I have the power to end a war between witches and vampires before it truly begins. I, by keeping my brother in line. You, by behaving as your true self, not some tool for Marcel or the witches.” That Elijah has a way with words! Will Davina trust him?

Marcel has found the dead witches

Apparently, Klaus and Co. weren’t too concerned about cleaning up the massacre Hayley’s anonymous wolf protector made in last week’s ep. In this sneak peek, Marcel calls Klaus to visit the bayou with him and try to figure out how all these witches were gruesomely killed. It turns out Marcel has “an informant” who might know something about the attack. Given that we’re not really sure what went down either, we’re eager to meet this informant…

A super secret mission

Meanwhile, Rebekah, Sophie, and Hayley are joining forces for “a mission of their own,” according to the synopsis. Are they too trying to determine the identity of Hayley’s savior? Or are they up to something else? Either way, we’re eager to see these three spend some scenes together. Actually, we’re just eager to see Hayley out of the house at all. Hopefully, her role in the mission isn’t entering foreign language phrases into some Internet search engine. Because we’re not sure if we can sit through another one of those anti-climactic scenes.

Klaus and Marcel fight over Davina

Though it’s not hinted at in the synopsis, it seems Marcel and Klaus’ fight for control over Davina will come to a head in this episode. In the promo, we see Marcel telling Klaus, “You will not take Davina from me.” Never tell Klaus what he can’t do, Marcel! “I can take Davina anytime I like,” Klaus responds. Then, we see Davina trying to fight someone off who is holding her in the cemetery. “Let go of me,” she screams. Is this a present-day scene we are seeing, or yet another glimpse into Davina’s troubled backstory?
