Glee Might Cut Most Its Cast in NYC Switch: Which Characters HAVE to Stay?

A pretty major bombshell dropped earlier today when word got out that Glee might actually be moving to NYC in the middle of this current Season 5, and McKinley High School would be gone from the show. We’d expected this might happen in Season 6, but this seems so soon. Crazy!

Nothing’s been decided for sure just yet, but if the plan does go through, over half of the show’s characters would be getting the axe. Naturally, we’re freaking out at the thought of losing so many core characters. But is everyone at the high school really gone for good. Here are they characters we hope will stick around and some ideas for how to make that happen.

McKinley’s Current Graduating Class — Like Blaine and Sam

Obviously, Kurt (Chris Colfer), Rachel (Lea Michele), and Santana (Naya Rivera) are all safe. As for the others, the current McKinley graduating class seems likely to remain with the show, especially since we’ve heard that Blaine (Darren Criss) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) will be looking at NYC colleges in Season 5, Episode 6: “Movin’ Out.” Plus, can you imagine Glee without Blaine and Sam? It would be kinda dismal.

As for Artie (Kevin McHale), he’d already decided on film school in Brooklyn last season, so he’s likely to continue. We haven’t yet learned Tina’s (Jenna Uskowitz) fate yet, and the show hasn’t used her as much as they could over the years, but we’d like to think she’ll head to NYC as well, given her friendship with Blaine.

Last Season’s Newbies, Including Jarley and Ryder

But what last season’s new additions? Marley (Melissa Benoist), Jake (Jacob Artist), Kitty (Becca Tobin), Unique (Alex Newell), and Ryder (Blake Jenner) all seem to be the most likely candidates to get let go, since they were really only added because the choir room needed new bodies in it. No offense, you five.

As far as we’re concerned, it’s been pleasant enough to meet these talented youngsters, and they’ve provided a few interesting storylines, like Marley’s bond with her mom, or Ryder’s catfish storyline. But these characters just haven’t popped the way that the original New Directions kids did, so we really wouldn’t shed too many tears to say goodbye to them.

Sue and Schue

We often have a love-hate relationship with the adults, as neither Sue (Jane Lynch) nor Schue (Matthew Morrison) have much to do, particularly not with the NYC cast. But Sue’s antics still crack us up, so maybe she and Schue can get transferred to the East Coast? And we know Emma (Jayma Mays) won’t be on the show after this season, but we don’t want to say goodbye to Wemma just yet.

To sum up, we think Sam and Blaine definitely need to come to NYC, and Glee isn’t Glee without Sue. (They need cheerleading coaches in New York, right?) Hopefully, Artie, Tina, and Will can show up, too. As for the newer characters, well… you know what they say about the door hitting you on the way out, right?

But what do you think? Is there a newbie whom you think should graduate early and move to NYC, like maybe Ryder? Or are you praying that Kartie can continue? And hey, maybe Stoner Brett can move to NYC to pursue his rap career with his sure-to-be hit song, “Busters Get Popped”? Let us know!

I actually don't mind if some of them get cut.

I would be so sad!!
