Slowly but surely we’ve been getting details about The Walking Dead spin-off, even though AMC has said the companion show won’t debut until 2015. So far we know more about what the new project won’t include (don’t expect it to feature any TWD crossovers) but now comic book creator and TWD executive producer Robert Kirkman is spilling some additional details, including more information about when the spin-off will take place.
During a chat with TV Guide Robert revealed, “It can be minute one [of the outbreak]; it can be it can be the next-to-last minute," he said. "We're very excited about being able to go anywhere we want to go as a starting point.”
Granted, that wasn’t much of a definitive answer, but as always we like where Robert’s head is at. He’s always sort of been against telling the zombie apocalypse origin story, but minute one of the outbreak would add a whole new dimension to the world that he’s already created.
And just as we won’t be seeing any TWD characters on the companion show, Robert once again asserts that the spin-off won’t take place in Atlanta, but he is eager to find another prominent locale.
"Georgia has become a character in itself on The Walking Dead that is very unique and very visually interesting, so we would want to find a new location that has similar appeal so it can be its own character in the spin-off," he explains.
