Dancing With The Stars

Valerie Harper Talks Cancer Battle in Closer Magazine: “I Do Believe in Miracles”

When Valerie Harper was diagnosed with brain cancer back in January, she was told she had as little as three months to live. By that September, she was doing the Foxtrot with Tristan MacManus on Dancing With the Stars Season 17, and she's still going strong into the holidays.

“[My doctor] said, ‘At the rate we are going, you don’t have to worry,’” Valerie, 74, told Closer magazine in its debut issue. “‘You will see Christmas!’”

That's the result from her latest brain scan on October 14, which followed two previous positive scans. “I thought, could I be so lucky to have that happen again?” She’s due a little good luck, since she had the bad luck to be diagnosed with terminal brain cancer to begin with. And even though her cancer has continued to regress, she knows her health "can turn on a dime."

Valerie told Closer the passion she shares with her husband of 26 years, Tony Cacciotti, is what gets her through the bad days. Tony even told the magazine they still are intimate at least once a week. When you have so much to live for, you just fight that much harder.

No wonder Valerie says, "I do believe in miracles" — she's a living miracle among us. We’re looking forward to seeing her back in the ballroom with Tristan on the DWTS Season 17 finale. Keep living for the moment, Valerie!
