Even Cher knows Cher isn’t qualified to judge the technicalities of ballroom dancing. But so what — most of the time, the existing Dancing With the Stars judges seem to score based on overall performance value anyway.
Cher will be filling in for DWTS head judge Len Goodman on this Monday’s (November 4) Season 17, Week 8. She’ll also be performing two songs, and the seven remaining couples will be dancing to her songs.
Cher talked to reporters on a conference call on Friday to preview her big day. "I don't know anything about ballroom dancing," she freely admitted. "I don't want to be responsible for someone getting a different mark than a professional would give them. I like to know what I'm doing and do it really well. In this instance, I have no idea what I'm doing."
She added that she’s “so not qualified to be judging on a technical basis” and she doesn’t want anyone “to not have all the breaks they would have from someone with expertise. That's a little frightening!"
She said her son, Chaz Bono — who competed on Season 13 — would be coming over that night to give her tips. "He said, 'Mom, you don't understand how seriously people take this. I'm going to tutor you.' Obviously I need all the help I can get."
She gives props to celebs — like Chaz — who are brave enough to sign up for DWTS, but when asked if she would do the show herself, she said, "I think I wouldn't do it, because I would be too frightened.” She’ll wear any number of wild, exposing costumes, but DWTS is just too scary!
If it makes her feel any better, the remaining DWTS couples seem to thrilled to have her as guest judge — they don’t care about her lack of experience. And who knows? She may enjoy the gig so much, it could change her mind about competing.
