Dan will be playing Lancelot in the latest film in the franchise about museum displays that come to life and cause a ruckus after the sun goes down. Lancelot will be the villain in the film.
Actors Ben Stiller and Robin Williams are likely to reprise their roles in the third film as well, which is said to be set in London this time around.
Dan's film career clearly is on fire these days. He was recently seen in the WikiLeaks film, The Fifth Estate, and he just wrapped the starring role in the upcoming thriller The Guest. Meanwhile, his British film, Summer in February, hit theaters in the UK over the summer (which is an appropriate time, given the film's title).
So while we certainly miss Matthew on Downton, it's great that he's making the most of his time away from the show. But is Night at the Museum 3 a good move for his career? The first two films were huge hits, bringing in a combined billion dollars. But the second one didn't do as well as the first, so we're wondering if the series is losing steam.
Are you looking forward to Dan as Lancelot? Or would you rather see him in something a bit different?
