Miley Cyrus: “I’m One of the Biggest Feminists In the World”
Did Miley Cyrus finally break the glass ceiling? Was twerking the answer all along? Earlier this week, the 20-year-old pop star sat down with BBC Radio 1 and talked about her role as a female performer.
“I feel like I’m one of the biggest feminists in the world because I tell women to not be scared of anything,” she says.
One of the first pro-feminism examples that jumped to Miley’s mind? The right to have equality in all areas of life, including those related to public social norms. “Guys get to show their titties on the beach. Why can’t we?” she asks. “I don’t understand the double standard of life.”
Some may take issue with the controversial and highly sexualized performer’s particular example, but Miley does have a point. Why can’t we sunbathe in the nude whenever and wherever we want?!
All joking aside, Miley says all she aims for is to be authentic and have a good time.
“Hopefully we all live to be 105. You’ve got about 105 years on this earth and you should be happy every single one of those. There’s no reason to not be. As long as you’re breathing, you should just find the best in everything.”
And whatever makes you happy (within reason) is okay by Miley. She says, “I’m for everybody for anything. I don’t care what you want to do in your life, or who you want to be with, who you want to love, what you want to look like.” Amen, sister. Amen.
