Hugh Jackman Has Skin Cancer Removed — What Happened to His Face?
First things first: Hugh Jackman is okay. The X-Men star just had a scary brush with cancer but looks to be healing up nicely after having a basal cell carcinoma removed. And we can thank his loving wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, for keeping our favorite wolverine healthy.
“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!” the 45-year-old Aussie actor explained via his Instagram. Turns out that pesky mark was a basal cell carcinoma, a slow growing form of skin cancer.
Hugh isn’t alone in facing skin cancer. It’s actually the most common type of cancer, with more than 2 million people diagnosed with some form of the disease every year, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. Thankfully, Hugh’s BCC, as the meds refer to it, is life-threatening “only in exceedingly rare cases.”
More worrisome is the Foundation’s note that “BCC can be highly disfiguring if allowed to grow.” Thank goodness Deborra sent her hubby to the doctor! We don’t know what we’d do if something happened to Hugh Jackman’s ruggedly handsome face!
In the photo from his Instagram, poor Hugh does look a little worse for wear with his nose bandaged up and a slightly concerned expression on his face. “Please don’t be foolish like me,” he writes in the caption. “Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
