The whole idea behind The Walking Dead is “no one is safe” and some of the actors on the hit show are uneasy with that notion. Though many of them are used to it by now, it still can’t feel great knowing that your character could die at any moment and you’d be out of a job if that were to happen.
However, one TWD actress actually says the fact that she doesn’t know whether or not her character is going to die actually helps to inform how she plays the part. Emily Kinney (Beth Greene) chatted with ReelLifeWithJane.com and explained, “In some ways it helps your acting because it’s sort of like your character. You never know what’s going to happen next. The thing that’s hardest about it is the life stuff. Planning. It’s an issue that you have as an actor anyway, forever always, never knowing what job’s next.”
But while the uncertainty may help Emily’s craft, the idea of saying goodbye to any of her co-workers is still a tough one to accept. ”It also is hard because you do get invested in the friendships you make on set. And then when someone else’s character dies off, they’re not around anymore,” she continues.
And while saying farewell could be tough, Ems admits that she’s surprised her character has even lasted this long. “When I first joined, it was popular, but it wasn’t quite what it is now. I sort of thought, ‘Oh, this is going to be awesome. I get to be in this cool zombie show.’But I assumed my character would die.” Two seasons later Beth is still alive and kicking, even after that suicide attempt a while back.
We have a feeling we’re going to lose at least one major character is Season 4, but hopefully Beth is spared. Do you think she will make it to Season 5? Vote below!
The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
