We’re dying for Vampire Diaries hunk Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to expand on his confession that he was once an Augustine vampire — and it looks like he will in the next all-new TVD (Season 5, Episode 9: “The Cell”). Check out the extended promo below!
It doesn’t look like Damon will be escaping ye olde cell anytime soon. At the end of last night’s ep, we saw him locked inside of a cozy, cement cell that he frequented in 1953. “The Cell” will give us a glimpse into that past, as well as exposure to more of Dr. Wes’ mad scientist experiment.
“What are you doing to me?” asks a drowsy Damon in the promo, a hazy filter on the shot implying Damon is drugged out of his mind -- or, perhaps, suffering from some sort of PTSD a la Stefan.
Dr. Wes is nothing if not honest. He tells Damon, he’s drugging him with “Vervain, to keep you calm.” (We’re not really sure if that is the effect vervain commonly has on vamps, Dr. Wes.) The doctor injects Damon — but don’t worry, Elena’s on the case. We see her chatting it up with new BFF Aaron.
“Wes is involved in something much bigger than anybody even realizes,” she tells him. Aaron really has that befuddled look down. Has he really not picked up on any of the vamp-related experiment either his guardian or his former roomie have been involved in? And does he really think his parents were killed by bears? C’mon, dude!
Next, we get a shot of Dr. Wes vaguely expressing his ambitions: “I’m ready to take my work to the next level.” What could that mean? He’s already created a vampire-feeding vamp. What is the step after that? Perhaps, to turn a vamp who consumes human blood into a vamp who consumes vamp blood?
It looks like Elena (Nina Dobrev) will call on Stefan (Paul Wesley) to help find Damon. “We have to find Damon,” she tells him. Stefan seems unmoved. Is he really angry enough with Delena to leave Damon in the lurch?
At the end of the promo, we get a glimpse at what is presumably a flashback to Augustine Society days past. Another mad scientist stands over a distraught Damon. “This is for the advancement of science,” he tells him. (These sorts of narrations must be a prereq for Augustine scientists). The scientist punches Damon, seemingly snapping his neck. Ouch.
Are you as anxious for the next episode as we are? Do you think Damon will escape the evil laboratories before Dr. Wes can do anything permanent? Sound off in the comments below!
