Chris, who is also 44, tells police that he shot Wayne in self-defense. Chris and Wayne were reportedly in the closed bar with "a few friends and acquaintances," according to a source. Chris and Wayne, who are said to have been friends, "began to argue and the others left," the source adds.

Wayne is known for his Wayne Mills Band, and the band's manager reports that Wayne died of a bullet wound to the head. "I hope justice is served," the manager says.

Wayne was apparently working on his seventh album at the time of his death. Among the artists who have opened for Wayne's band over the years include superstars such as The Voice judge Blake Shelton and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks.
