The Voice 2013 Eliminations: Former Frontrunner Matthew Schuler in Danger!
Normally, we have a pretty good grasp on who is going to leave each week on The Voice but we could be in for some surprises this week. Some front-runners left us scratching their heads with their performances (ahem...Matthew Schuler) while others once in danger of being sent home may live to see another day (we’re looking at you, Caroline Pennell).
Even our poll results were kind of interesting. Will Champlin won the night by getting 24.68% of your votes, but Tessanne Chin was right on his heels by getting 22.73% with her reggae take on No Doubt’s “Underneath It All”. No one was very close to these two, and we were kind of shocked to see James Wolpert so far behind at 12.34%. Cole Vosbury earned 10.39% of your votes by going acoustic again with his rendition of “I Still Believe In You”.
According to you, the rest really weren’t worthy, with Caroline earning 6.82%, Jacquie Lee earning 5.15%, Matthew earning 4.8%, and Ray Boudreaux earning a paltry 2.92% of your votes.
If the iTunes charts are any indication, Will has nothing to worry about on tonight’s show. He nabbed the highly impressive #6 spot with his shockingly unique take on Etta James’ “At Last”. Cole is holding steady at a #13. While James wasn’t all that popular in our poll, his eerily Freddie Mercury-esque rendition of “Somebody To Love” is #17 on iTunes. And Jacquie, who seems to sing songs that are far too old for her, has nabbed the #20 iTunes spot for her take on the Jackson 5’s “Who’s Lovin’ You Now”.
The most surprising iTunes chart spot was for Tessanne Chin, who is fairly far down the list at #24. Caroline secured the #26 spot for a rendition of “Dog Days Are Over” that didn’t stray very far from Florence and the Machine’s take on the song. If you scroll...and scroll...and scroll...you’ll see Ray Boudreaux down at #60 for his performance of “Gimme Some Lovin’”. Interestingly enough, Matthew Schuler’s “It’s Time” is way down at #91 while his rendition of “Hallelujah” from weeks ago is holding strong at #68.
The question remains –– will past week’s performances come into play on tonight’s show? If so, we think Matthew Schuler will get another chance to shine. If not, he could be in trouble.
Based on iTunes rankings and our poll results, here are our predictions for who’s safe and who’s up for elimination:
Jacquie Lee: IN DANGER
Matthew Schuler: IN DANGER
Team Cee Lo
Caroline Pennell: IN DANGER
James Wolpert – SAFE
Tessanne Chin – SAFE
Will Champlin – SAFE
Ray Boudreaux: IN DANGER
Cole Vosbury: SAFE
In the end, we think Ray Boudreaux and Caroline Pennell will see their Voice dreams dashed on tonight’s show. What do you think of our prediction? Sound off in the comments!
