Things between siblings Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) are icy when The Originals picks up with Season 1, Episode 8 (“The River in Reverse”). In this sneak peek for tonight’s episode, we see Rebekah giving Klaus “the devil’s eye” — and it’s as amazing as you’re imagining.
The scene is set in the Mikaelson mansion. Klaus is enjoying some freshly-tapped blood compliments of a pretty blonde while he grills Rebekah about Marcel’s seeming avoidance: “Have you spoken to our good friend, Marcel, today?”
“No, should I have?” Rebekah asks, politely annoyed.
Klaus’s paranoia (this time, justified) rears its ugly head: “He’s been mysteriously silent — avoiding me, some might say. I thought, perhaps, he may have whispered reasons into your ear. Along with all of the sweet nothings.”
Rebekah does not take kindly to the jab about her romantic life, but tells Klaus: “If I see him, I’ll be sure to ask if he’s still sore at you.” Is she telling the truth, or has she officially joined Team Marcel? Hard to say. It seems she is finally through with Klaus, but sibling loyalty is a hard habit to shake -- especially for the Original family.
Despite her thin veneer of camaraderie, Klaus sees through to Rebekah’s judgment: “Let me give a voice to that look in your eyes,” he tells her. “My saintly noble brother lies writhing in agony in the bayou, victim of my bastard brother’s bite. Just one or two drops of his blood would ease his pain.” So you haven’t forgotten the brother you left hallucinating in the bayou, Klaus!
“On the contrary, Nik,” Rebekah says. “I am simply enjoying my breaky, waiting for Elijah’s healthy return.”
Klaus isn’t buying it: “Oh, come on, Rebekah. You’ve been giving me the devil’s eye all morning. Out with it.”
“Perhaps, I’m concerned if I voice my opinion about what you did to Elijah, I will end up on the wrong side of your toxic hybrid teeth,” Rebekah confesses. Valid fear.
“Poppycock,” Klaus tells her. “I would never bite you. Elijah made some very offensive accusations about my intentions towards my child. He deserves a day or two of discomfort. Besides, you know my preferred method of punishment for your indiscretions is the dagger.” Ugh. Klaus, will you never learn? You make it so easy for Rebekah to jump ship and join Team Marcel. We’ll have to wait if Klaus’ attitude sticks. Judging from the promo for tonight’s ep, Rebekah’s certainly will…
