2013 is about to come to an end, and Miley Cyrus can definitely consider her goal of being the most talked about person accomplished. You’ve gotta admit it — when are we not making twerk jokes or cringing at her latest performance?
But the real question is this: do those things make her worthy of Time’s coveted Person of the Year title?
Her fans definitely think so. Miley’s currently leading the online poll — which means she’s beating out some insanely influential names in politics and in her own industry, like Wendy Davis, Jimmy Fallon, Edward Snowden, and even the president himself. Wait, are we really sure Miley’s winning despite the fact that she’s up against all of these world powers?
Possibly not. According to Mashable, hackers have found a way to rig the votes to make sure Miley wins the whole thing — not that Time’s not too bothered by it. In the end, their editors get the last laugh, because they ultimately decide who the Person of the Year will be, not the results of the poll.
“Time and Poptip are aware of the efforts to affect the results of the Person of the Year poll, and have measures in place so that only legitimate votes are being incorporated in the final tally," a rep for Time told Mashable. "We're delighted that so many people are having fun with this informal poll and contributing to the conversation.”
