Nigella Lawson’s Possible Drug Abuse Surfaces in Court Hearing
Although celebrity chef Nigella Lawson has denied all claims of drug abuse, her former personal assistants told a different story when they took the stand in London this week defending themselves against their alleged fraud against Nigella and ex-husband Charles Saatchi.
The personal assistants — and sisters — Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo are accused of stealing 300,000 pounds (or $488,000 in the US), although they both deny they’ve embezzled anything. And according to CNN, an e-mail from Charles read in the hearing by the defense could get them off the hook.
In the e-mail from Charles to Nigella, he claims the assistants won’t be found guilty because Nigella let the girls spend whatever they wanted as long as they didn’t tell anyone about her daily cocaine and marijuana use — yikes.
Another new development that came from this hearing was that Charles found out about Nigella’s drug abuse in June, right around the time he was spotted with his hands around her neck. Could there be a connection there? Either way, Charles made headlines and the couple filed for divorce shortly after.
Although only a pre-trial hearing has taken place, the judge has already decided the trial will proceed. Whether or not this affects Nigella’s spot as a judge on ABC’s The Taste is yet to be seen.
