ABC Family Star Expecting Twins — Should Her Character Get Pregnant, Too?
Her character on ABC Family’s The Fosters is dedicated to raising foster children, and actress Sherri Saum just got pregnant with some kids of her own. And yes, we said kids. The former Rescue Me actress, 39, is expecting twins.
In an official statement to Us Weekly, Sherri’s rep says, "The actress and her husband Kamar de los Reyes are so thrilled to welcome the little ones into the world in early summer." The twins will be Sherri’s first children. She and Kamar have been married since 2007, and the couple splits their time between New York City and Los Angeles.
Sherri isn’t the only TV star to have gotten pregnant while headlining a show. It’s happened plenty of times in the past, and while the pregnancy is sometimes written into the script... it isn’t always. When Bones star Emily Deschanel got pregnant, the show chose to have her character get knocked up, as well. But when Mad Men’s January Jones was expecting, her show decided to write in a weight gain storyline, instead.
There’s no news yet on how The Fosters plans to address Sherri’s pregnancy. The actress plays a school principal who, with the help of her police officer wife, is raising a handful of kids, many of them foster children. So in this case, we guess a pregnancy storyline could work. But since Sherri’s character is part of a same-sex couple, her pregnancy would have to be an intentional part of the storyline. No sudden or unplanned pregnancies here. Still, adding in yet another kid could only mean even more family drama and sweet bonding moments! If The Fosters does decide to go that route, we certainly wouldn’t complain.
