In the comics, Carol and Tyreese were actually in a relationship at one point. She died in the prison, allowing a walker to bite her, and Tyreese was the one who had his head sliced off by The Governor (David Morrissey), which happened to Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) on TV.
In the TV version, Carol killed Tyreese’s girlfriend Karen (and David, poor forgotten David) to contain the sickness, and Tyreese still doesn’t know as we approach Episode 9. Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) banished Carol from the group, in some part to keep her safe from Tyreese’s wrath. But now Tyreese is with Lizzie (Brighton Sharbino) and Mika Samuels (Kyla Kenedy), who were in Carol’s care and whose tough love from Carol may have saved Tyrese’s life. Lizzie is apparently a crack shot — she landed a bullet in Alisha’s forehead after Alisha had been shooting at Tyreese during the final Governor/Prison battle. Tyreese was last seen running after the kids to tell them how to get out, so we’re assuming we’ll see him with them in the back half of the season.
Chad teased that the show would milk the Tyreese/Carol conflict, so we’re wondering if Tyreese will bond with the kids, and perhaps run into Carol. Maybe they’ll be like one big happy group … and then he’ll learn the truth? Maybe after some time it wouldn’t affect him as much, or maybe he’d feel even angrier at how she hid her secret. Carol was there when Tyreese punched Rick in his Karen death anger. She could’ve told him the truth, but she didn’t.
Do you think Carol and Tyreese will cross paths out there on the road? Fans in Georgia did say Melissa and Chad were seen together on set (with babies...) so that does hint to a story collison. We know Carol will return at some point in the second half, and she’ll be desperate to know that the girls are safe. If Carol and Tyreese connect, how do you think that will play out?
The Walking Dead Season 4 returns on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
