Pretty Little Liars is a twisty, turny show that will stop at almost nothing to shock its audience. At this point, we're not convinced there's any line it won't cross, which is why we like to dive into the world of awesome, crazy fan theories every week. After all, with this show, you never know when the fans are going to get something totally right.
This week, we want to talk about poor, dead Garrett (Yani Gellman), whose place in the war between Ali and "A" is still very unclear. More specifically, let's examine the theory that Garrett found himself six feet under because he knew one of the biggest secrets of them all — that Ali was alive!
This Tumblr user lays out some of the biggest points in this theory's favor. Most notably, we all know Garrett was framed for Ali's murder, and kept insisting there was something in her medical file that would exhonerate him — perhaps that "something" was proof that the body wasn't really Ali's at all. He also mentioned that something that had been stolen from Ali's grave could help prove his innocence; again, it's possible that he was thinking of some sort of proof that the body wasn't Ali's (like, perhaps, the body itself).
There's also the fact that, as he told Spencer on the Halloween train, he let Jenna believe he'd killed Ali when he'd done no such thing. Was he part of Ali's escape plan? In the flashback, it didn't look like they were working together, but maybe Ali sought out his help later that night. Or perhaps he followed her and found out the truth. Or perhaps he worked it out later, after being worried that he'd be blamed for her murder because of what Jenna thought she knew.
We'll add that his involvement with the N.A.T. Club is also a giant question mark. If he knew the truth, did the rest of them, too? Did Melissa? Is that why Spencer's mom defended him?
Whatever the case, Garrett knowing the truth about Alison might explain why a seemingly fundamentally good hearted cop would stay mixed up in all the scheming in Rosewood.
What do you think of this theory — is it possible, or totally crazy? Sound off in the comments below.
