While April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) were totally the focus of the cliffhanger at the end of Grey’s Anatomy’s midseason finale, there was another couple who hit a major milestone: Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington). Alex told Jo she’s the only family he needs and that he wants to be with her forever... but it’s never that easy. So what can we really expect from Jo and Alex when the show returns in February?
“Sometimes it’s not about opposites attracting; sometimes you have to be cut from the same cloth to move forward,” Justin told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “I think they understand each other really well, and she adds an excitement to him, a spark.”
And because Alex and Jo share a similar background, their relationship is the first time Alex has really been able to open up to someone else — especially about his family and his childhood.
“She’s his voice of reason,” Justin added. “She’s trying to save him; she gives him advice and is there for him to play devil’s advocate on what he needs to think about.”
Meanwhile, Camilla credits Jo and Alex’s chemistry and compatibility on the fact that Alex is able to be himself when he’s around her.
“There is nothing Alex has to do to change for Jo,” Camilla said. “She sees all of his imperfections and vice versa … I think they are totally perfect for each other. Totally not perfect people but perfect together.”
