When The Walking Dead spinoff was announced back in September 2013, it seemed like the launch date of 2015 was a long way away. But now that it’s 2014, it feels more like right around the corner.
So far, The Powers That Be have only spoken theoretically about the project, but there is some kind of plan out there — even if they aren’t ready to share the plan with fans.
Producer/director/special effects guru Greg Nicotero talked to Channel Guide Magazine at the end of 2013, reiterating that the spinoff won’t affect storytelling on the current TWD show.
“No, we’re sort of treating the spin-off as a completely separate entity,” Greg said. “That was something that was very, very important when the notion of a companion series was even brought up. Many of us, the actors and the executive producers, wanted to make sure that anything we did, we didn’t want it to diminish our story, our storyline, our characters and the momentum that we have. So the intent is that it is going to be its own standalone world.”
The site asked, “Do you know when we might get a hint of what that world will entail?” Greg answered, “I do know. But I can’t tell you [laughs]. After it happens, then we can discuss it.”
That tease! But it sounds like he not only knows what the world will entail, but when we’ll hear about it. Do they have a plan in place for sharing the big picture plot? Hopefully they share details soon, including a projected production schedule, locations, and casting notices. It’s exciting!
Here’s what we know about the spin-off so far, including that it won’t be set in Georgia, like the main show, and the timeline could be anywhere from the first minute of the outbreak to close to the end … if there is an end.
Are you curious to hear more about the spin-off, or just focused on The Walking Dead Season 4, which returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9?
