“We’re about to show everyone what being from the South is about,” says one of the cast members in the opening of the trailer for CMT’s new original reality series, Party Down South. And for these eight twentysomethings, being from the South — South Carolina, that is — is all about drinking, four-wheeling, wakeboarding, lake fishing... and more drinking.
In a recently-released preview from the cable network, it becomes clear really quickly that the setup is borrowed heavily from Jersey Shore — not surprising, seeing as the show is from the same producers as the MTV hit. We’ve got a bunch of young, attractive people living, partying and working together all summer in South Carolina vacation spot, Murrells Inlet.
So basically, it’s Snooki, Pauly D, and the gang, with a Here Comes Honey Boo Boo-esque twist. Just swap the beach, Ron Ron Juice, and EDM, for the lake, ice cold brews, and some Dierks Bentley.
But sometimes familiar is a good thing, and this one looks to be a lot of fun! All of the usual suspects are there: drunken hook-ups, fights, bikinis, drama, and house camaraderie. But now we’ve got the accents, and good Christian values thrown in... sort of.
“I need to get my Bible out!” proclaims one of the Southern belles, after undoubtedly getting up to some mischief.
Tune into the all-new season of Party Down South when it premieres on January 16 at 10 p.m. ET on CMT.
