The Walking Dead

Watch the First Three Episodes of The Walking Dead in Black and White — Right Now!

There's so much vibrant color on The Walking Dead — the green Georgia grass, the blue sky, the red, red blood. So pretty. But the AMC series is based on a comic book illustrated in black-and-white, and every so often the network likes to go back to basics. Once again they are fading to black-and-white — this time online for three episodes, for a limited time.

As the official Walking Dead account tweeted on January 8, "Watch the first 3 episodes of #TheWalkingDead Season 1 in black & white using your cable provider login!"

They linked to the main site, where you can watch Season 1, Episode 1, "Days Gone Bye"; Episode 2, "Guts"; and Episode 3, "Tell It to the Frogs" for the next 18 days.

"Days Gone Bye" has been shown in black-and-white a few times in the past, and you may remember in 2012 when even more episodes were re-broadcast in the old school format. Watching something in black-and-white, especially if you're used to seeing it in color, changes the entire perspective. It also makes the blood, guts and rotting hands all over Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) look slightly less nauseating.

So thanks for that, AMC. Watch the videos here, if your cable provider is listed and you are able to sign in with your log-in and password. If you can’t … well … sorry! AMC is airing another TWD marathon starting February 2, so at least you can still see the episodes again, if not in black and white.

The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
