Let’s hope Chris Hemsworth leaves the hammer at home for his new gig. The studly actor who has no problem passing as Norse god Thor in the hit movie franchise just landed a sweet role. He’ll be starring as the official celebrity announcer of the Academy Award nominations.
Being an announcer may sound kind of so-so but this is the Oscars we’re talking about. Chris will be the right-hand man to the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, as the two read off the nominations for this year’s awards ceremony, which airs March 2.
Plus, Chris’s voice is the one actors and actresses all around the world will hang on as they wait to learn if they’re up for one of the biggest awards in entertainment. Thank goodness Thor is use to that kind of life-changing power.
Last year, AMPAS’s then-president Hawk Koch, Oscar host Seth MacFarlane, and starlet Emma Stone shouldered the burden so we’re hoping this year’s Oscars host, funny lady Ellen DeGeneres, will also be joining in on the fun. Think she’ll bring along matching horned helmets for her and Chris?
Chris should start working on his best announcer voice soon since the nominations go live next Thursday (January 16). The only downside is he’ll have to get up at dawn; the noms will be announced at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater starting at 5:38 that morning. But hey, this is the Oscars.
