The Walking Dead's extended family will reunite in October 2014!
AMC had already renewed The Walking Dead for Season 5, but they recently confirmed the October premiere month — (if it ain’t broke after four seasons…) — and also renewed the post-show therapy session, Talking Dead.
Showrunner Scott Gimple gets to keep his job into Season 5, and possibly beyond, and having Talking Dead return means we get to see more of the franchise's unsung hero, Chris Hardwick.
AMC just announced a bunch of 2014 premiere dates, but didn't give The Walking Dead and Talking Dead a specific date in October. They keep doing these things in stages. In October 2013, they renewed the show for Season 5; in January they confirmed it will be in October 2014; and maybe over the summer at Comic-Con they'll give us an official premiere date. (We have October 12 penciled on our calendars, but just clear every Sunday that month to be safe!)
Not to get all Emperor Palpatine, but this is all proceeding as we have foreseen in our TWD schedule roundup. And in 2015 we should be able to add updates for the spin-off, which isn’t expected to disturb the regular TWD and Talking Dead schedules. But we’ll have to see.
We don’t really know anything about the spin-off yet, including the day of the week it will air. Are you just assuming Sunday, or would they maybe air it on Thursday? Maybe Talking Dead will include discussion of the spin-off, or perhaps they’ll add another hour after that broadcast, whenever the spin-off airs.
Anyway, TWD renewal news is never unexpected — you don’t cancel anything related to the single biggest show on TV for everyone under age 50 — but it’s still exciting. Long live the Dead!
The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
