Watch Nikki McKibbin’s Son Tristen Langley Sing “Santeria” in American Idol 2014, Austin Auditions (VIDEO)
Despite the lowest ratings ever in American Idol history, our favorite competition show is back and better than ever, having blown us away with its premiere on January 15. The combination of amazing contestant talent and chemistry between the judges made it the best episode we’ve seen in awhile... and we’re only getting started!
Tonight promises to be another great night on the show, as the auditions continue in Austin and move on to San Francisco. Will Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. meet the country’s next big superstar in one of these fair cities? Only time will tell!
It’s in Austin where the judges meet 15-year-old Tristen Langley, who just so happens to be the son of Season 1 contestant Nikki McKibbin. Tristen recalls being a four-year-old and handing his mom a rose on the Idol stage. “She inspired me to sing,” he says.
Sadly, Tristen’s rendition of “Santeria” by Sublime doesn’t inspire the judges to give him a unanimous decision. Though J.Lo thinks he has a “really, really good voice” for a 15-year-old, Harry admits that it’s hard with his mom in the room.
“This is tough because it’s the perfect story,” he says. “But I think that if mom weren’t here and the story wasn’t here, I can guarantee it wouldn’t work for me.”
