American Idol 2014: Son of Season 1’s Nikki McKibbin Auditions For Season 13
Those of us who have been watching American Idolsince its inception 10 years ago likely remember the distinctive and smoky voice of 3rd place finisher Nikki McKibbin.
In what can only be considered the circle of life (or at least the circle of Idol), her 16-year-old son, Tristen Langley, auditioned for Season 13 of the reality singing competition (having auditioned for Season 12 a year earlier).
As J.Lo, Harry, and Keith listened in the episode tonight, January 16, Tristen — who hails from Kennedale, Texas — performed Sublime's "Santeria." The judges expressed concern over him straining his voice but sent him through with a ticket to Hollywood anyway.
So while we wait to see how far Tristen goes this go-round, you’ll really get a blast from the past by watching this video. After Nikki sang Naked Eyes' "Always Something There To Remind Me," little 4-year-old Tristen walked onstage and brought his mama flowers. Pretty adorbs, no?
The video cuts off just as Randy Jackson gets to his critique and, if we know anything about The Dawg by this point, starting it off with "Nikki, Nikki, Nikki" probably wasn’t a good thing.
The writing was likely on the wall at that point (we’re looking at you, Kelly Clarkson), but we’ll be keeping an eye out for a McKibbin resurgence in Season 13!
