Over the weekend, One Direction’s Liam Payne came under fire from fans when he tweeted his support of Duck Dynasty’s “family values.” Many people took this to mean that the boy-bander was in agreement with show patriarch Phil Robertson’s anti-gay opinions, causing the Twittersphere to go into a frenzy. Now, Phil’s son Willie is responding to Liam’s compliment.
The tweet in question occurred on January 18, when the teen hunk took to the social media network to share his love for Duck Dynasty and the Robertson clan: “@williebosshog huge love to you/your family — huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold.”
After the tweet turned into a media ruckus, Liam posted a variety of responses to critics, including stating that “being a fan of someone's show and the way they still hold a family together doesn't mean I am ok with all they say.”
Now, amidst the controversy, Willie has responded back to his new fan: “@Real_Liam_Payne Thanks bro. Congrats to u boys as well. Y'all keep rockin, we'll keep quackin. Stay strong in this nutty world.” What a budding new bromance!
And Liam isn’t the only 1D-er to gain flack recently over his support of a scandal-immersed reality star. After boxer and Celebrity Big Brother UK contestant Evander Holyfield likened homosexuality to a fixable disability earlier this month, the heavyweight was voted out of the house, causing Louis Tomlinson to tweet his disappointment: “Gutted Evander got voted out of big brother !!”
Now we’re just waiting for Harry Styles to voice his opinion on The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galavis. We’ll be monitoring your Twitter closely, buddy.
