Lorde’s Sister India Covers “Say Something” — Does She Sound Like Lorde?

So you like Lorde? Made “Royals” your go-to track weeks ago? Are trying to grow out your hair in tribute? Well, then today is your lucky day because Lorde’s got a little sister and she sings too!

India Yelich-O'Connor (Lorde’s real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor) released a single over the weekend: a cover of A Great Big World’s “Say Something.”

India has had little to say about her “Say Something” cover. She simply announced it with a tweet and a blog post on her site, Genres of India. The number itself ends with a sweet “thank you” that reminds us this is meant to be a simple, homespun project by a 15-year-old and not the polished final product garnering Grammy noms for her sis. This despite the fact India was recently spotted rubbing elbows with Aussie pop star, Cody Simpson.

All that in mind, what do you make of the number? Could we be listening to the first track of the next big thing? Could Lorde and India be, say, the Serena and Venus of the music industry? We’re not quite sold and neither, it sounds, is Indy. When contacted by Fairfax Media, she said she “merely put this cover up as something for a little bit of fun.”

A little bit of fun that has, as of publishing, been listened to more than 108,000 times.
