Garrett Hedlund — that hunky, blond guy from Country Strong, TRON: Legacy, and Inside Llewyn Davis — doesn't seem like such a likely candidate to play Captain Hook in Pan, a forthcoming 3D reboot of the Peter Pan story.
But sure enough, he has been offered the role, as Deadline reports.
Let's face it: Garrett is prettier than most guys who have played the one-handed swashbuckler — like Dustin Hoffman or Jason Isaacs. Even Once Upon a Time's dashing Colin O'Donoghue is a little more rough around the edges. In fact, we'd sooner picture Garrett as Peter than as Hook.
But the hook of the reboot — pun certainly intended — is that it's an origin story, of sorts, in which Pan and Hook are allies. OK, so maybe Garrett is a good choice for a younger, nicer Hook.
In the new story, according to Deadline, "an orphan is taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes the savior of the natives and leads a rebellion against evil pirates."
Said evil pirates are led by a buccaneer who could be played by Hugh Jackman or Javier Bardem, the site notes.
The film, scheduled for released on July 17, 2015, will be directed by Joe Wright — who also helmed Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, and Anna Karenina.
All three of those films, not so coincidentally, starred Keira Knightley — but we're guessing she'll pass on this project since she's sorta done the whole pirate thing.
