Pretty Little Liars star Troian Bellisario (Spencer) has a lot in common with real-life bestie, Lulu Brud. For one, both actresses also have their hand in filmmaking. Troian recently completed her short film, Exiles, using crowdfunding. Now, Lulu and husband Justin Zsebe (whose wedding Troian was recently a part of) are doing the same. Check out their pitch for Everything is Borrowed.
“Everything is Borrowed is a very special story to me,” Lulu says in the short video on the Indiegogo for the film. “I wrote it as an exploration of what it means to be home, what it means to have a home, and also as an exploration of what it would mean to strip away a lot of this worldly things.”
These are themes Lulu explores in the script she co-wrote with a friend, but what are the plot details? Well, Everything is Borrowed plans to tell the story of Melody, a vagabond woman who lives in other people’s vacation homes when they aren’t there. According to the Indiegogo description:
“Melody lives by the philosophy of taking only what she needs, never leaving her mark or putting down roots too deep, fixing up the homes that she breaks into as an unspoken payment to the homeowners. In her old beater van, she drives across the United States from vacation home to vacation home, breaking in and living there until it’s time to go. Her plan to live as a ghost is interrupted when a homeowner, Nick, shows up unexpectedly during one of her stays and she is forced to deal with the things from which she has been running…”
Lulu and Justin plan to use this theme of living only with what we need in the making of the film. As Justin explains: “We’d like to actually create the home of this film in the similar way that we like to live our lives, which is simply, not creating a lot of waste, using our resources wisely, and using a lot of heart and imagination to make those resources be abundant and more than enough.”
The husband and wife filmmaking duo are trying to raise $20,000 for the film, and are offering contributor perks like signed movie posters, dream catchers made by Lulu, and even a week-long getaway in the North Carolina beach house where most of the filming will take place.
