Pretty Little Liars Speculation: Mrs DiLaurentis Buried Ali Alive
Someone had to bury Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse) alive on Pretty Little Liars, and it’s an important mystery to solve — even if Ali made it out of her intended grave alive. Here are a few reasons why we think the gravedigger in question is none other than Alison’s own mother, Mrs. DiLaurentis!
Ali hasn’t gone to her parents
We maybe, kind of understand Alison’s reluctance to confide in the Liars following the attempt on her life. She was freaked out and, while she loves the Liars and they love her, she was freaked out about who she could trust. But a parent’s love is supposed to be unconditional, and it seems pretty strange that Ali wouldn’t have gone straight to her parents after Mrs. Grunwald pulled her from the grave. Unless, she suspected it might have been her own mother who put her in there in the first place.
Ali was spying on Mrs. D.
This suspicion certainly matches up with what we know about Alison’s behavior between her disappearance and her return in the Halloween special. We’re talking about the crawl space Emily found in the basement of the DiLaurentis house — and the evidence that someone had been living there, spying on the home’s occupants through holes born through the floorboards. We think the squatter was Alison herself, returned to her home to spy on the mother she suspects of attempted murder.
Mrs. D. isn’t doing so well
Granted, Mrs. D.’s craziness upon her return to Rosewood could be chocked up to a mother’s reaction to losing her daughter — or it could be guilt. Mrs. D. has gone a bit off her rocker since Ali’s alleged death — she even keeps a fresh set of linens on her daughter’s bed — and we think it might be her way of trying to work through what she thinks she’s done to her own daughter. Mrs. D. lives in denial of her daughter’s supposed death because the alternative is admitting to herself that she killed her own child.
We’ve seen hints at their abusive relationship in flashbacks.
Some of the most interesting flashbacks we’ve seen have been between Alison and Mrs. D. They imply a mother/daughter relationship built on attempts to control and hurt one another. That dynamic worked both ways, but it only ever seemed to escalate into near physical abuse on Mrs. D.’s side. In one flashback, we see her shut the piano cover while Ali is playing, nearly crushing her daughter’s fingers. This was a near-miss, but the same can’t be said for the cut on Ali’s face when she tries to sneak into the Hastings’ house one night. Mrs. Hastings catches her, and Ali breaks down. Could Ali’s own mother have been the person she was fighting with? This seems pretty gruesome, but we wouldn’t rule anything out in this town.
Do you think Mrs. D. could have been the one to bury Ali alive? Sound off in the comments below!
